BAIRD CREEK

Sometimes death is not only the end of life but also a way of life. Baird Creek Park is located on the far east side of Green Bay. To get there you must go east on University Avenue to Humboldt Road and then go south at the fork in the road. You will continue for one mile to Baird’s Creek Parkway and then turn right into the park. The park is a thirty-five-acre parcel of land containing areas of old growth forest and it is also rich in diverse plants, shrubs, trees and animals. In the middle of this land is Baird Creek, which is believed to have been formed by glaciers and, at one time, was probably a lot deeper than its current status. This park is a beautiful place with many varied things to do. There are miles of walking and biking trails throughout the forest, also a Frisbee golf course on the grass-covered hills and valleys. During the winter season the park is a popular spot for sledding on the huge hills that have their own pull ropes that bring you back to the top of the hill. The beautiful, natural setting of the park has always been a family favorite destination for picnics, weddings, birthdays and graduation parties—all things good and wholesome.

Unfortunately when the day is done and the night arrives, there seems to be a darker, evil side that inhabits this peaceful park. Throughout the years there have been rumors, and even some evidence, of satanic rituals being performed in the outlining woods. Recently, statues of the figure Santa Muerte have been showing up in the park as well. The word Santa Muerte translates to mean Saint Death and is a symbol prayed to in a cultlike religion practiced in the poverty-stricken areas of Mexico. This religion appears to have migrated over the border into the United States appearing most often in cities that have a larger Mexican population.
